Carl Guerra Legacy
Ambassador of the Sunset
When Carl Guerra moved from his home town Chicago to San Francisco in the late 1960's, he and his family made 39th Ave. their home. Carl was well known for riding his bicycle through-out the Sunset community and his distinctive horn sounds "Beep-beep, honk-honk, ah-oooh-gah!"
Some of his favorite "hang-out" spots included St. Gabriel School, South Sunset Playground, Fairlane Foods, St. Ignatius Prep, West Sunset Playground and Polly Ann's Ice Cream on Noriega street, they become Carl's extended family.
Carl was never without his transistor radio and a disarming smile on his face. Not surprisingly, Carl spent a considerable amount of time at the Pomeroy Center. Here is where Carl was able to enjoy countless hours of programs and activities.
Carl was, and continues to be an inspiration to us all. Together with family and friends the Center is collecting donations to help with the purchase of a park bench that will be dedicated to Carl.
